I would like to hire out the venue for a private function – is this possible?

Our calendar is incredibly busy, particularly on weekends, and so it’s not often possible that we can fit in private bookings. However, please do get in touch and we can always see if we have space.

Do you only put on live music and club nights?

The Soup Kitchen basement performance space has also been known to put on film nights, theatre and comedy evenings so please do get in touch if you have suitable ideas around these sorts of events.

Do you hire out the ground floor bar?

We are open to events on the ground floor bar although we require them to be free entry and open to the public at all times. These events can range from DJ nights to art exhibitions and tap takeovers. Please get in touch if you have suitable ideas. Please note we don’t host open mic nights or pub quizzes.

Event customers

What is your age policy for events?

Our performance space is strictly 18+ venue in accordance with our licensing terms. The ground floor bar is open to all ages until 10pm when it also become 18+.

Where can I buy tickets?

Tickets for our events are sold online through the DICE app. For a full list of upcoming events please click here.

Do you have a cloakroom?

Our performance space has a cloakroom behind the bar in the basement. It costs £1 per item.

Am I allowed to bring bags into the performance space?

Up to small hand or shoulder bags are permitted in the performance space although please prepare for inspection by our security team. Outside food and drink is not permitted on the premises unless for a specified medical condition (please see accessibility below).


Is there step free access to the performance space?

There is no step free access to the performance space where we host gigs and club nights. Our ground floor bar and kitchen have step free access.

Can people have a seated view of the stage?

The performance space is a standing-only venue. However, for those who are unable to stand for long periods of time it is possible to arrange a seat. This should be sorted in advance of the show by emailing us at

Is there an accessible toilet?

There is an accessible toilet at ground level in the bar and kitchen. The performance space has no step free access and thus no accessible toilet.

Can people request free personal assistant tickets?

We are happy to try and provide personal assistant tickets for any customer who may not be able to attend a gig without the support of a personal assistant, although it is down to the discretion of the promoter putting on the event. Please contact should you require this. You may be asked to provide evidence for the personal assistant ticket to be issued.

I require my guide dog to be with me at all times – will they be allowed in Soup Kitchen?

We are more than happy to accommodate all dogs on the ground floor bar at Soup Kitchen. Unfortunately we do not permit dogs in the basement performance space as our events use amplified sound that could potentially damage their hearing.

Is strobe lighting used in the performance space?

It is rare that strobe lighting is used during gigs although it is sometimes used at club nights. If it is there will be signage on the night letting customers know.

I have issues with anxiety and worry about being in tightly-packed spaces - will be ok in the Soup Kitchen performance space?

Soup Kitchen’s performance space is an intimate basement space and it can feel busy particularly if an event is sold out. If you are worried about whether you can attend then you are welcome to come and look at the performance space beforehand so long as you contact us in advance at

Does the venue provide earplugs?

We encourage you to bring your own but earplugs are available behind the bar.

I need to bring medication, food, drink or medical equipment to manage a condition, am I able to bring them in to Soup Kitchen?

Customers are able to bring medication, food, drink or medical equipment to manage a medical condition into both the bar and performance space of Soup Kitchen.

Travel Guide

I’m arriving by car – where can I park?

There are a handful of short-stay (maximum two hour) parking spaces on Spear Street itself although these are often taken. Large open-air car parking can be found at CitiPark, 1 Port Street, M1 2EG and TCCP Tariff Street Car Park, M1 2FJ – both are only a five minute walk from Soup Kitchen.

I’m travelling by bus

Soup Kitchen is less than five minutes walk from Piccadilly Gardens bus stops and just under ten minutes walk from Shudehill Exchange.

I’m travelling by train

Soup Kitchen is 10-15 minutes from both Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Victoria train stations.

I’m travelling by taxi

Taxis can drop off customer right outside the venue on Spear Street.

I’m worried about missing my last/train bus – when do events at Soup Kitchen usually finish?

If you are attending a gig then unless it is billed specially, the latest a show will finish will be 11pm, 10:15pm should a clubnight proceed it. Club nights finish at 3am Sunday-Thursday and 4am Friday to Saturday unless otherwise specified. Please check our social media on the day for the latest updates.
